Friday Stream (4/2 5:30PM PT)
In parallel with development of Dark Forest v0.6, we’ve been working with Project Sophon on experimental new gamemodes, including timeboxed, RTS-style Dark Forest matches (Dark Forest Arenas).
We’ll be streaming on Twitch this Friday 4/2 at 5:30PM PT / 8:30PM ET to demo a Dark Forest Arenas match. Follow us on Twitch here!
This month, Dark Forest participated in Gitcoin Grants Round 9. Gitcoin is a platform that allows community members to directly support web3 and decentralized tech projects, with funds matched by organizations like the Ethereum Foundation, Optimism, and more via quadratic funding.
We were absolutely blown away by the response to our Gitcoin Grant: in total, over 1000 individual donors contributed a total of nearly $15k to Dark Forest, putting us at about $17k with quadratic matching included! So far, our work on Dark Forest has been entirely supported by a handful of developer grants (from xDAI, the Mozilla Builders program, and more) and community contributions (from planet HATs and donations)–your support truly makes the game possible.
We’ll be using these community donations to continue funding development of Dark Forest. We’re also excited to announce that we’re committing at least 50% of this round’s Gitcoin contributions to supporting Dark Forest community/third-party developer projects. For starters, we’ll be making a grant to help support Project Sophon, a pair of developers who have been spending an enormous amount of time building out community tools and infrastructure (such as the community plugins homepage, the Dark Forest subgraph, contributions to the snarkjs library, and more). Project Sophon is currently collaborating with us on a number of other Dark Forest-related projects, which we’re excited to share with you all in the next few weeks.
Finally, we’d like to call out a handful of Gitcoin funders who made especially substantial contributions:
We’re grateful for the vote of confidence and we’re honored to build for you all!
